High Keevins anti Celtic comments in strange Gerrard column

I often wonder why when journalists go on to write a negative column about Rangers they always somehow manage or need to bring Celtic into it.

Is it to curry favour with the blue half of Glasgow?

Is it to say, ‘Look, I’m not just digging at you!’  so that it seems there is no agenda?

Or is it both? Or is it quite simply that you can’t speak negatively about them without fear of reprisals from the Ibrox hoards?

Because whenever journalists speak negatively about Celtic, I very rarely see them mentioned in the same article? I could be wrong, so if I am, please point it out.

In his weekly column, Hugh Keevins was analysing the whole Gerrard/Villa scenario and was on the verge of actually telling the truth about the former Rangers managers tenure in Glasgow when he said, “Illusions have been shattered in the process because of the timing of his move from Rangers to Aston Villa but that always comes with having an inflated idea of your own importance being put into perspective.

“You can argue all you want over the size of a club Villa might be in the grand scheme of football – but one thing is certain.

“Rangers and Celtic are not the biggest clubs in the world. They’re not even the biggest clubs in the UK.”

Why bring Celtic into this? What was the need?

This whole week has nothing to do with our club but all to do with the goings on at Ibrox and their fans, quite frankly, embarrassingly cringey reaction to their manager seeing what was in front of him and getting out.

But then, not content at taking a swing, he tried to land a sucker punch by comparing this to Celtic fans reaction at Rodgers leaving for Leicester,  “If Celtic should win the league and send Rangers into a financial tailspin by missing out on the Champions League’s golden ticket as a consequence then Steven will need to recall Glasgow from memory because the city will be on his travel red list for ever more.

“If he doubts that he only needs to ask former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers for his opinion.

“If you can win Trebles and still leave Celtic Park under a cloud it vouches for the unique state of mind associated with fans trapped in the parochial playground of the Old F*rm in Glasgow.”

Did Gerrard ever claim that he was a Rangers fan and landed his dream job?

Recite tales of his life long love affair with the club?

Or was he on the brink of clinching an historic Treble Treble and then bail out with less than four months of the season to go?

Of course not, but that doesn’t suit the narrative of they’re both just as bad as each other.

Mentioning Govan Sevco FC 2012 in the same breathe as Celtic somehow makes Govan Sevco somehow Relevant.Whem in Reality it is soo far off the mark. They always spin it with the Jargon (Old Firm)Old Firm ceased the very day Rangers we’re Refused a CVA.And Slipped into Liquidation.Remember the events very very Fondly. To this day Rangers have remained in Liquidation.
