There’s absolutely no doubt that negative headlines have followed Celtic everywhere this season. We can’t even seem to avoid them during an international break when nothing is happening at the club.

From the Dedryck Boyata saga to the Moussa Dembele situation to the reports of Brendan Rodgers unrest, the media have dined out on drama in the East end of Glasgow.

Fresh from trying to move Rodgers down to Aston Villa last week, the papers have been at it again this weekend, with The Daily Mirror claiming that Newcastle United are lining up a move for Rodgers as a replacement for Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard is under pressure for the first time at St James’ Park, with his Magpies currently winless in the English Premier League with just two points from eight matches.

The paper claim that the club see Rodgers as a viable replacement.

While all the speculation is tiresome, perhaps the constant nature of it is in fact having a positive effect in the Celtic dressing room.

In the wake of rumours of dressing room splits, the Hoops put together a classy performance against St Johnstone and looked unified both in their play and celebrations.

Will the latest bout of media nonsense allow Rodgers to tap into something of a siege mentality and put a fire in the bellies of his Celtic squad?

With big matches ahead in a variety of competitions, now would be the time.
