This is one that has come from left field.

As Celtic strengthened the squad with their three Japanese signings on Hogmanay, former Hoops striker Charlie Nicholas has recommended a stunning name that he believes the Parkhead club should be considering bringing to Glasgow.

Speaking in his column in The Scottish Daily Express [transcribed by The Sun] Nicholas said, “I would like to go into the market and try get somebody like Cesc Fabregas.

“I spoke to him in December when we were both at an Arsenal game.

“He is still fit as a flea and he isn’t getting a game at Monaco.

“I know speaking to him that he wants to keep playing for the next year or two.

“I know Celtic maybe couldn’t afford his salary but maybe they could come to an agreement with Monaco.

“I feel the team needs a Lubo Moravcik-type and Cesc would be perfect.

“If Ange was looking for star dust then I would ask Cesc the question. He is still only 34.”

The former World Cup winner contract expires in June next year and is free to talk to other clubs this month. After just five appearances for the principality club, the Spanish superstar will be desperate for a move for regular football.

Nicholas is right though.

The salary will be a huge stumbling block.

Fabregas is currently on a deal worth £118,000 per week [Salary Sport]!

How are Celtic supposed to even come close to that?

This is in the realms of fantasy football and I wonder if Nicholas has  really thought this through before he sent his column to print?
