We all remember this season for various reasons.

But sticking to the football, the 2011/12 season was probably one of the most dramatic of Neil Lennon’s first tenure as Celtic manager.

Lennon was charged with bringing domestic dominance back to Paradise after losing out on the league by one solitary point the previous season.

The league started off well enough with victories over Hibs and Aberdeen away and a rousing 5-1 home win over Dundee United.

A home defeat to St Johnstone put a spanner in the works which Lennon recovered well with two wins over St Mirren and Motherwell.

But in the weeks to come, defeats to Rangers and Hearts put pressure on the then-Celtic boss and it all came down to Kilmarnock.

Nothing less than a win would do to stop slipping further behind in the title race but heading into the break 3-0 down, Lennon knew his job was on the line.

As reported by The Sun, Lennon said, “There was a game at Kilmarnock where we were 3-0 down at half-time and I told the players their display was unacceptable.

“I said to them that if they wanted to see me walk through the door on Monday morning then they had to turn the situation around, and they did – we got a 3-3 draw and that kickstarted everything.

“For one thing, we were the early kick-off that day and later that afternoon Rangers were held 1-1 at home by St Mirren, which gave us a lift.

“It was a young team but we had quality players like Fraser Forster, Scott Brown, Joe Ledley, Gary Hooper, and James Forrest was just breaking through.

“We then went on an unbeaten run of 22 games – winning 19 of them – and Ledley scored the only goal of the game against Rangers at Parkhead on December 28 to put us top of the table for the first time.”

Celtic eventually went on to win the league by over 20 points that season due to events off the park and Lennon never looked back.

The Northern Irishman eventually left the club in 2014 after securing three league titles and two Scottish Cups.
