So this morning we woke to the news that Giorgos Giakoumakis could be on the verge of a mega-money move to Saudi Arabia.

According to The Sun, the oil-rich state could be a destination for the Greek striker and whilst no clubs where named in the report, it has certainly caused a stir amongst the Celtic support.

It would be a shame to lose Giakoumakis in the first place as he is a very good striker, but surely he is too good and has too much to offer other teams in better leagues than to be lost to what is widely regarded as a retirement home for professional footballers.

This morning, transfer journalist Ekrem Konur took the story that little bit further and has claimed that Giakoumakis is being tracked by TWO Saudi clubs:

Again, no clubs have yet to be named but as the old saying goes, ‘There is no smoke without fire.’

I just can’t see the big Greek striker choosing to play in the Saudi league. Plus, it is reported that he is happy at Celtic.

Could this just be rumours all centred around cash because, for me, I always thought Giakoumakis looked like an ambitious footballer looking to win silverware rather than just a big payday.

With January just around the corner, I suppose we will find out soon enough whether he signs the contract extension, or decides to cut loose and find another club.
