Celtic’s transfer speculation is certainly ramping up now.

With the recent speculation that Alex Collado is of interest to the club [Express], the fans will be watching on eagerly to see who will be next to join the club in the coming weeks.

The added speculation that Ross Barkley was a target over the weekend inspired this suggestion by a Celtic fan on A Celtic State of Mind.

The fan commented on the show saying we shouldn’t be looking to sign Barkley at all and said the club should go after his teammate, Scottish international Billy Gilmour.

Dykes said simply, “I would have him in a heartbeat.”

And co-host Colin Watt agreed, “He’s a fantastic player. An absolutely fantastic player.

“His performances for Scotland at such a young age, considering he’s not playing week in, week out either.

“He’s absolutely dynamic in that midfield. His performance against England in the Euro’s as well.

“He was just absolutely outstanding. I think if you had the opportunity to bring someone like Billy Gilmour to Celtic, you would take that in a heartbeat.”

Gilmour has been labelled as a wonderkid when he signed for Chelsea [90min] but has only made 22 appearances for the club since his move to the London club in 2017 [Express].

He moved to Norwich City on loan last season but couldn’t help the Canaries avoid the dreaded drop.

Gilmour signed a new deal at Chelsea this summer which takes him to 2024 [STV News] so any future move for the player is likely to be another loan.

He does link well with McGregor but the pressure in coming to Glasgow and Celtic in particular will be too much given his short history I’m afraid. So let’s move on. The budget is finished…we have what we have. Enough for Scotland but sadly no where near good enough for Europe IMO.

Why oh why would you even consider or think it would be a good idea to bring Gilmour in on loan. Absolutely no chance. Who would he challenge for game time…O’Reilly, Hatate, Turnbull. You only bring in loan players if they’re better than what you already have, and Gilmour quite simply isn’t.

The Barkley and Collado “interest” has been debunked by the club yesterday it’s a case of misinformation. I’m glad too as I watched Collado’s highlights reel on YouTube yesterday, although that’s not definitive, he wasn’t that good in my opinion and Barkley has had potential without fulfilling it for years. I think Barkley should’ve stayed at Everton as he got up in the Chelsea machinations and it’s stalled his career. He can’t be called a prospect anymore he’s twenty eight years old now and he could still do a job somewhere but it won’t be Celtic as he’s on £100,000 a week we couldn’t match that and I don’t think he’s the right fit for us anyway. Billy Gilmour on the other hand is a different matter he’s a really good player and someone Ange could mould into someone who could take us to new heights and id have him in a hearbeat. The problem here is his family, his mother is so bitter she wouldn’t even touch the green in the Norwich scarf when her son signed for them, now that’s staunch and a whole level of bitterness that requires treatment. I think it’s unlikely that we’d get him either but you never know I’ve heard a rumour that kid on Rangers are interested in bringing him back too.
