It’s always difficult to gauge a transfer story or a link to a story at the business end of the season.

When many peoples attention is on the football, the next player in is not always at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts. Unless there is substance to the story.

And there does seem to be in this one.

Antoine Semenyo has been heavily linked to Celtic over the last week or so and with the 22 year old out of contract next summer, it looks like the Hoops may be on the trail of their next bargain from the lower leagues in England.

Semenyo has been in decent form for Bristol City, not only bagging six goals in twenty appearances but also creating eight and it seems that he is attracting all the right attention from all the right clubs unfortunately for Celtic.

Transfer journalist, Pete O’Rourke, has dropped some news that may mean Celtic face stiff competition for the youngsters signature.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke said, “I’m sure Celtic and I know a number of English clubs are also keeping an eye on Semenyo as well.

“I think Forest tried to sign him in the January transfer window, along with several other clubs.

“I’m sure Premier League clubs are maybe looking at him because he is a top young player.”

Valued at just over £1m [Transfermarkt], it does seem that Semenyo may cost the earth but as soon as English clubs are mentioned, that could be enough to blow Celtic out of the water in terms of offering a better financial package.
