With Celtic’s injury woes taking a massive jump into crisis with the news that Callum McGregor is sset to be missing for six to eight weeks, there will be a natural clamor to see who will take over the Celtic captains place in the centre of midfield.

With McGregor utilising the sitting role and playing it brilliantly all season, so Celtic have enough in their squad to cope without the influence, skill and guile of the Scotland midfielder or will they need to dip into the transfer marker once more to strengthen.

With the recent capture of Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi, it would seem that Celtic do have enough strength in there to provide adequate cover. And that is also not taking into consideration James McCarthy and Nir Bitton.

But, if we take into account the fact that these players were signed BEFORE McGregor’s injury, that does seem to suggest that neither McCarthy or Bitton are seen as long term answers or even able back up’s to the Celtic captain.

Speaking to Give Me Sport yesterday, transfer specialist Pete O’Rourke has tipped a player he believes would be ideal for the Hoops should Ange Postecoglou feel the need to further enhance the central midfield area, “Celtic probably are looking for a central midfielder after missing out on Riley McGree.

“That was a player they thought they were going to land until Middlesbrough came in late doors and managed to lure him to the Riverside, so Kendouci could be a target for Celtic.”

Kendouci has been linked with Celtic since the middle of the transfer window and is ranked as Algeria’s No 1 top flight player [Transfermrket].

With the Hoops heading into a congested fixture schedule before the international break, now may be the time for Ange to think of reinforcing the squad for one last time to ensure the push for the title is not hampered with the treatment table.

Nir Bitton is a very reliable, cultured and dependable player and we need him in our midfield pool. He has been mis-used in the past by such as Lennon. As far as I am concerned, he should be an integral part of our set-up and I would be happy if he remains at Celtic until he is ready to retire. I admire him every much.
