Celtic this week launched the brand new third kit for the season, which depending on your viewpoint, is either a further opportunity to grab as many Celtic goods as you can get your hands on or the more negative slant of big brands such as Adidas and the club looking to take advantage of the club’s recent success.
I lean more towards the latter, especially concerning last season’s third kit.
Popular amongst fans, it was only worn once away to Real Betis putting into question the very need for a club like Celtic to have a third strip. With the third kit for the new season currently priced at £85, it seems not only pointless but an expensive purchase for the fans.
This, however, is not just a Celtic issue. It’s a problem with the wider game in large moving to a more business-orientated, money-driven sport.
It’s also undeniable that the third kit will have great financial benefits to the club and could help with things like the signing of players, allowing the club to spend the kind of money the fans desire to attract the best talent to Parkhead.
The third kit, when taking everything into count, is perhaps a needless but necessary novelty when dealing with a club the size and stature of Celtic.
