Now, before I start, I am just as happy at Scotland’s results over the last week as anyone. I love seeing the national team do well and to qualify for the Euro’s this summer was excellent, even though the performances in two of the three games wasn’t.

I want Scotland to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. I really do. I was in a bar in Magaluf  for the opening game of France 98 when Scotland played Brazil in the 2-1 loss and it was without doubt one of the best days I have ever had watching the national team.

So my enthusiasm over seeing my country in a major tournament is just as high as every other Scotland fan.

But what I won’t do is get carried away. Which is exactly what this caller did on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.

Reviewing Scotland’s win over Austria, this next caller got a wee bit carried away when he pinpointed a certain Scotland star for some praise, “Every man had a brilliant game.  Another thing I noticed as well last night that nobody spoke about.

“Talking about Billy Gilmour. There was a couple of passes he made that nobody read.  And it was Larsson-esque, it’s like these guys weren’t on the same wavelength.

“I think they’ve got to get the Scottish guys on the same wavelength.”

Ok. Now I get it. Billy Gilmour is a fantastic player with brilliant potential, but come on.

To compare his range of passing to one of the most iconic Celtic figures is just plain over the top.

There is no doubt the young Scotland midfielder has a great future ahead of him but lets all take a big deep breath because as of yet, Scotland has achieved nothing, as has Gilmour (and please don’t say he has won the Champions League, because technically he hasn’t).
