Neil Lennon went from, in some Celtic fans eyes, as being one of the legends of the club to one that they see as a pariah.

After a glittering Celtic career which took the club to their first European final since 1970, many fans see his tenure over the ill fated ten in a row season as unforgivable.

It is worth saying, for balance, that there is still a large section of the support that see him as a legend, but I think it is fair to say last season is a black mark against what was a stunning career as a player and manager.

Now that the former Celtic boss seems to have put the past behind him, journalist Mark Guidi, congratulated Lennon on his new appointment at Cypriot champions Omonia Nicosia and took a swing at the Celtic fans for their reactions to the failures of last season, “Delighted for Neil Lennon, first of all, I wish him all the all the best.

“Going to Cypriot football, they’re the league champions. Henning Berg  was the manager with results not quite as good as what the club wants them to be at this stage.

“I just hope that it works out and he can use this as a platform to go onto bigger and better things.

“And I think it deserves he deserves that.

“We could go into a two hour show about Neil Lennon and Celtic and what went wrong last season but one thing,  I just I don’t think that he deserved some of the comments and some of the reaction towards him from some from some of the Celtic supporters.

“I think it’s been over the top. It wasn’t great last season, but it was a collective collapse.

“It wasn’t all down to Neil Lennon. From the recruitment department, to the boardroom. The backroom staff you know, to the players.

“So saw all the different things that went on, but ultimately the manager carries the can.

“So he has been a very successful manager for Celtic. Look at what he managed to do for Hibs as well but I wish him well.”

Whatever your views on the former Celtic manager, and people are entitled to their opinion, many fans felt Lennon held on too long and that if he walked in October, even November, a new manager may have saved the season.

But then if that happened, we wouldn’t have Ange.

So is it time to move on and forgive Lennon?

That is a debate for another day.

Lennon was lucky there was no fans in the stadium last year. If there was.. He would have been gone by x mass

Last season certainly was a negative mark in Lennon’s Celtic career and the club in general. Its easy to see, with what went on last year, that it was a mistake to rehire him but the truth is he didn’t rehire himself so no it was not all down to him. However it is time to move forward, Ange is our great hope now and we’re happy to have him instead. Lennon will be remembered more kindly for his positive contributions as a player in the future. HH
