With eight games to go in the league, Celtic are going great guns at trying to wrestle the title back from their rivals across the water.

But as we have all began to learn with Ange Postecoglou, he strives to stay one step ahead of the game as he has reportedly been putting his plans in place to strengthen the squad for the coming new season already.

It seems that one reported target needs to be taken off the list is Coventry City’s Gustavo Hamer.

Vital Celtic reported over the weekend that the Dutchman was on Ange Postecoglou’s radar and as he entered the final year of his contract, a price of £5m was mooted as being enough to secure his services.

When asked about his contract situation, Hamer said, “I haven’t spoken to my agent yet but he has said they are talking, so that’s fine and we see what will come and what will happen next season.

“I am really happy and I look forward to sign a new deal but I am not looking too far yet.”

And the dithering over an extension looked like it alerted Celtic to the possibility of a move for the 24 year old.

But it wasn’t to be as Coventry announced that Hamer put pen to paper on an extension that will see him through until 2024 leaving Celtic to look elsewhere for reinforcements.
