It’s not a case of it, but when.

Josip Juranovic played his hand before the World Cup and his gamble seems to have paid off.

Rejecting an improved contract from Celtic, the Croatian went into the World Cup knowing that if he didn’t perform it would either hamper his chances of either a further offer from Celtic or a big money move.

And it’s worked out hugely for him.

His performance against Brazil was the one that made other clubs sit up and take notice and now that he has grabbed their attention, the chat is now about how much Celtic can expect to get for him.

When it was suggested that he could for £20m in January, journalist, Mark Guidi said that he thought the offer may not be too far away from that figure.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Guidi said, “I don’t think it’ll be far away from that.

“I know it’s the most obvious thing to say, it just depends on what a club is willing to pay and how desperate they are for a right back and how much Celtic can squeeze out of them.

“Do I see him being in the high teens towards the £20m? Yeah, I do.

“Do I see him going for £23m-£24m? No, I don’t.

“I think it’ll be a £16m to £18m region.

“He’s a Champions League player. And he’s now a World Cup semi-finalist.

“So for big clubs down south, he’s been like with Torino and Atletico Madrid, it’s a hell of a lot of money, but they will see that is good value for them.”

I would say it is a lot of money but it is also a fair price considering what you see other players go for in England and abroad that don’t even have the experience that Juranovic has.

January is going to be an exciting one for us and hopefully, we will get the fee that a player of Juranovic’s quality deserves.

  • John says:

So Calvin Bassey goes for 23 million on the strength of 2 or 3 decent performances in the Thursday Cup and a decent season in front of no supporters yet a guy who performs OK in some CL games and is one of the players of the tournie in the WC is worth 5 million less. This guy is a clown. Starting price should be 25 million, same as Tierney who has limited CL experience and no WC experience. Get JJ’s agent into Celtic Park and get him to start flogging his client. He is contracted for another 4 years. 25 mil and we talk if not he stays and plays. If he is flogged for 18 million Celtc make little over 10 million dues to sell ons. No point. Only talk to English clubs those idiots pay through the nose. If we are to lose him make it worth while.
