Celtic’s transfer business certainly is the talk of the town these days.

With Ange Postecoglou already adding two players to the squad in Alistair Johnston and Yosuke Kobayashi, there is no doubt that there will be more to follow with the current rumours surrounding Cho gue-Sung and this man, Tomoki Iwata.

The Japan Times claims that Iwata is set to join Celtic in January on loan as the J League Player of the Year looks to move on from Yokohama F Marinos.

The 25-year-old Japan international helped Yokohama win the J League title last season and was also named the J League’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).

He currently has four international caps and made his debut for the Samurai Blues against Uruguay in the Copa America in 2019.

Iwata has made 82 appearances in total for Yokohama scoring just 3 goals. [Transfermarkt]

A defensive midfielder, Iwata will give Ange Postecoglou the cover he requires in that defensive role that current players Ideguchi, Abildgaard and McCarthy seemingly can’t.

Should the midfielder join the Hoops, it will certainly cast doubt over the futures of McCarthy and Ideguchi. Will these players be moved on as they have contributed next to nothing to the team this season?

Abildgaard looks set to return to his parent club after news broke that Celtic are looking to terminate his loan deal when the transfer window opens.
