The transfer rumour circulating yesterday that Celtic could be interested in Barcelona midfielder Alex Collado [Alex Roge] really took hold amongst the Celtic support.

This site wrote yesterday that we believe if Ange pulls off this signing, we would be getting an exciting player on our hands.

Collado is under contract until 2023 after Barcelona activated a two-year extension back in 2021 [Barcelona Official website].

So, as he enters the final year of his contract, could Celtic be seeking a deal to bring him to Paradise?

Speaking on The Celtic Way podcast, journalist Sean Martin addressed the speculation and seems to think that interest in Collado from Ange ‘is real’ after news broke that the club had made an enquiry, “The only thing I would say, the context around it is, it was an outlet called Relevo in Spain that broke the story yesterday and it’s since been picked up over here from Sky and other places that the club has made an enquiry.

“So it sounds as if that would reinforce that there is a genuine interest from Ange himself and you wouldn’t enquire if there wasn’t.

“Playing for a relegation-threatened team [Granada on loan last season] wouldn’t have necessarily been playing to his strengths.

“Celtic would play to his strengths in that manner. More possession heavy and get him on the ball more.

“A player of his ilk, a kind of silky player, being able to fill in either midfield or wing would be beneficial.”

With the transfer window closing in less than three weeks’ time, it will be interesting to see how this rumour pans out.
