Is this another one of those tenuous that lead to nothing?

Like the time Athletico Madrid were supposed to be interested back in the right back in June? [The Scotsman]

A report has surfaced today [90min] that Chelsea have been ‘doing background work’ on the Croatian international for a number of weeks.

This story was also covered by the Express where they also claim that Manchester United are also targetting him as Erik ten Hag looks to turn around the fortunes of the English giants.

Journalist, Tony Haggerty, tweeted that Celtic should only enter talks should the Parkhead club be offered a minimum of £12-£15m for the defender.

Even that price, for me, seems low.

But let’s not get into the semantics of money.

At this moment in time, there have been no offers for Juranovic and until such a time comes, we should treat this story as it is.

Speculation.

Paper talk.

There are no quotes from either Chelsea or United representatives at this time to confirm that they are looking to make an offer for Juranovic.

With 20 caps for Croatia and at just 26 years of age, Juranovic still has his best years ahead of him and has already stated that he has no desire to leave the club.

Celtic would be foolish to entertain any bids for one of their best players and unless silly money is offered, should rebuff any advances for the player’s services.

IF, there is any substance to these rumours, then the starting price should be £30m – £40m. £10m for every year he has left on his contract. If he was playing for crap teams in the Dutch, French, Belgium, Portuguese, or a n other, then they would be asking for proper money. Celtic and the rest of Scottish football need to up their selling prices a level and no longer be the bargain supply league for whoever comes calling. We rave about £25m being our biggest sale, but it’s peanuts compared to any of the leagues mentioned above, and more often than not, they’re better players. Look at Leicester looking to sell Fontan for circa £85m and possibly more if PSG try to steal him from Chelsea. This is the same Leicester that got £80m for Maguire. Celtic need to start thinking in these brackets and no longer think that £15m is a great deal, because it’s absolutely not. If Man Utd or Chelsea are serious, then they’ll pay that without too much consideration. Quality defenders are not easy to find these days and are often in demand as quality strikers. Go in high and wait for their reaction. What’s the worse that could happen…we get to keep him or we make a substantial amount of money.
