As Celtic look to strengthen the team for next season, the expected incomings and outgoings will be vast as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen the squad ahead of Celtic’s pursuit of Champions League football.

With the title all but done and dusted should the Hoops put their rivals to the sword on Sunday, all talk is now on whether or not Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota will become permanent members of Postecoglou’s first team squad for next season.

But speaking on the PLZ Soccer Show, journalist Allison McConnell gave us her thoughts on whether or not the Portuguese winger will sign on permanently after his loan deal finishes, “No and I’ve not thought that all season.

“I think he will assess his options it’s about seeing what’s there at the end of the season.

” I think I would be surprised if he was to stay. If he was going to stay, I think a deal would have been done in January.

“Celtic would have been happy enough to keep him. I think Benfica and the clubs would have agreed a fee.

“If it’s as simple as just putting a contract in front of him it would have been done by now. I think he’ll probably have a look and decide his next move in the summer.

“There’s a very interesting aside yesterday when Ange Postecoglou said it’ll happen if both parties want it to happen.

“I think Celtic probably would commit to that kind of fee on the back of the season he’s had and that’s before we touch on salary levels and everything.

“I think is actually a bigger issue and the bigger stumbling block at times but I think no, he’ll assess his options and I would be surprised if he committed to Celtic.”

So it does look like the fans could be on a long wait to find out if one of their favourites is looking to commit to the long term project at Celtic Park.
