As quoted by the Scottish Sun, Neil Lennon had revealed that it was likely that Kris Ajer was going to be missing from the matchday squad against Rangers this weekend.

The Old Firm returns to prominence tomorrow afternoon and both sides go into it with a good start to the league campaign in behind them.

It should be a close-fought game, then, and it looks as though the Hoops have got a few fitness issues to have to deal with before selecting a team.

Kris Ajer has been capable of filling in across the defence so far this season but it looked as though we’re not going to be able to call upon him with him carrying a groin strain.

Quoted by the Scottish Sun, Lennon revealed:

“It’s a groin strain, so Kris is going to be very doubtful for Sunday.

“He was just feeling it when he was running. He’s the type of player who won’t come off easily. He was worrying about it deteriorating.”

However, since Lennon has said via the club’s official Twitter that the player is hopeful of making a recovery, so we could well be in for a late call on him.

It’s certainly a concern for us as we are already short in defence and it could well be the case someone like Nir Bitton or Jozo Simunovic comes into the side whilst Moritz Bauer may well get the most onerous of debuts handed to him.
