Last night’s Champions League draw left me feeling a mixture of emotions.

I was proud knowing that last week’s first-half performance against Real Madrid was not a one-off.

Frustrated that we couldn’t get the breakthrough to take all three points but also delighted that we managed to get of the mark and take a point back to Glasgow is what was a very tricky away tie.

There were several players that stood out in last night’s performance.

For me, Greg Taylor continues to impress at this level and Reo Hatate was absolutely immense as a driving force through the midfield.

And Kieran Devlin agrees but with one player added into the mix.

Speaking in the fan interaction section of The Athletic, Devlin said, “Frustrating result after being so dominant, and not taking chances continues to be an issue.

“But the fact that there is frustration with not winning after thoroughly outplaying a team away from home in the Champions League is a testament to this team’s progress in my opinion.

“Taylor, Hatate and Maeda when he came on all really good I felt.”

I felt that Maeda would have got the nod to start last night in my predicted eleven and was very surprised to see Haksabanovic in the starting eleven.

I thought that was a big call to make considering we hadn’t seen much of the winger since his summer arrival and he did ok in the first twenty five minutes or so.

But Maeda just showed his class last night.

His energy and drive were one of the reasons the Donetsk players were out on their feet at the final whistle and I would fully expect the Japanese frontman to start against Leipzig based on his second-half showing.
