This TV deal has been the subject of much debate over the last few months.
As the SPFL look to generate more investment in the Scottish game, the governing body secured a deal with Sky Sports to increase the deal from £25m per season for 48 live games to £30m per season in return for showing 60 games.
On the face of it, it sounds like a good deal but when you actually crunch the numbers, it looks like we are being short changed.
Under the current deal, Sky pay just over £520k per game shown live.
When the new deal kicks in from season 2024/25, that figure drops to just £500k per game.
There is also the proviso that Sky have the first refusal on another 10 games they can show for a further £4m but with the broadcaster having a history is failing to fulfil their 48 game quota [The Scotsman], it seems unlikely that the Scottish game will ever see that money.
The decision has united Scottish football fans but these Celtic fans took to Twitter to show their disgust:
Shambles.

Disgraceful, they could’ve sold the matches that sky were showing but they’ve sold the rights to all clubs meaning nobody can see them except from what sky show 🤦🏻♂️

Absolute shambles by all involved. Running about as usual with the begging bowl out and begging for scraps from the table.
The ball has been seriously dropped, lessons aren’t being learnt.— SC (@ghodsgift) September 26, 2022
Just dreadful. Shocking broadcaster. Shocking deal. Shocking decision. https://t.co/6K09pmwuOY

Then we have to go deeper. The gatekeepers of our game have badly let it down. Instead of sitting saying like it or lump it, why don’t we attempt to drive these charlatans out of our game.
Our inferiority complex is astounding. https://t.co/MQ2SqJpIY5
