Kris Commons latest Celtic striker comments are just painful to read

I find these kinds of comments unhelpful at best and just downright ignorant at worst.

Kris Commons is a player I had huge respect for prior to the Ronny Deila days.

It was his attitude towards the former Celtic boss towards the end of Deila’s reign that left a sour taste in my mouth and now his latest comments have done just the same.

With Giorgos Giakoumakis looking like he could leave the club any day now, Commons sent a warning to Ange Postecoglou to make sure he gets the right person on to replace him with a bizarre comment on out transfer policy over the last 10 years.

Writing in his Daily Mail column via Glasgow Live, Commons said, “Celtic’s record with signing forwards in the last decade has been patchy at best.

“For every Gary Hooper, there have been several like Mo Bangura and Stefan Scepovic. Even talented players like Teemu Pukki never showed their best in a green and white jersey.

“So I can understand the concern among supporters when a success story like Giorgos Giakoumakis seems set to leave the club when there are no guarantees if the players who’ve been suggested as replacements will fill his boots.

First off. Ange’s record in the transfer market is nothing short of remarkable. If Celtic fans have any fears, it’s not in the manager’s job to identify a player.

Secondly, our record in signing strikers is ‘patchy’ in the last decade? How is that?

I see his point in naming the players that have flopped at our club but what about the successes?

Odsonne Edouard, Moussa Dembele, Kyogo Furuhashi, Leigh Griffiths, Scott Sinclair, Daizen Maeda and Giakoumakis himself doesn’t sound to me like a ‘patchy’ record in the striker department.

It’s easy to make stats and facts back up your own opinion but at least give the argument some balance for context.

But then if that happened, no one would click on it right?

Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?

He is right. We have thrown a lot of cash at strikers who haven’t cut it.

Behave yourself. You’re one of those guys that just want to see an argument where there isn’t one. So nothing about all the great strikers we have signed no?
