Quite rightly, Kyogo Furuhashi claimed August’s SPFL Player of the Month Award. Kyogo has been tearing it up in the Premier League scoring six goals in four matches, including a scintillating hat trick against Dundee United.

At Celtic we are blessed at this moment with some of the finest attacking players we have seen in this country for some time. More to that, we have two very capable but different strikers to lead the line. Giorgios Giakoumakis, is a player I really admire. His work rate, determination and strength up top add a new dimension to the team when he plays. It speaks volumes for the strength at our club that he is not our first-choice striker.

For me, Kyogo has it all, his movement is at times unreal. I still remember watching his first game against AZ and the movement between the lines was often missed by our midfield. He knows where the goal is, and like Giakoumakis, his work rate is incredible.

What is most encouraging as a Celtic fan is his consistent desire to improve. Speaking to Celtic TV about winning the first player award of the season, Kyogo said:

“I’m happy to get Player of the Month, my teammates always give me good passes and I just score the goals and I’m happy. It always makes me happy and every goal is for the supporters.”

“We keep working hard every game and training session and I hope we score more goals and I keep doing my best.”

Should he continue in this rich vein of form, we could be looking at the Scottish Player of the Year, to add to the accolades he will undoubtedly amass over the course of the season.
