Celtic fans have been given a boost ahead of the season kicking off this weekend with the news that Leigh Griffiths is set to rejoin the first-team in training and get some much needed match practice under his belt.

The Daily Record reports that Neil Lennon has been impressed with the striker’s fitness on returning to Scotland, following the three game pre-season trip to France, demonstrating that Griffiths still has a lot to offer the Northern Irishman’s side.

Speaking about the Scotland international’s condition and what it could mean for the Hoops, he said:

“I gave him a bit of criticism while I was away.

“He’s got himself in great condition. He needs a little bit of time in terms of his football. He will get some game time tomorrow.

“It’s a great boost. It’s the minimum requirement. He’s got himself to a really good level, so it’s important he maintains that because he will be an asset for us.”

Griffiths has shown already in 2020 that he is still capable of contributing to the side and the fact that he was “just” unfit and not injured should make his return to the starting line-up an easier process, he will, of course, be behind in terms of match fitness but he faced a similar situation last season before making an impact after the winter break.

The former Hibs man continues to prove his doubters wrong despite being written off time after time, however, the Celtic gaffer was clearly not impressed with the attitude that he displaced on his return to Lennoxtown and if he is to get his wish of finishing his career in the famous green and white shirt – his latest indiscretion has to be his last.
