Parkhead departure imminent in deal that could see Celtic boss Lennon facing sleepless nights

|

Highly rated Celtic youngster Ross Doohan has been tipped to sign for fellow Scottish Premiership side, Ross County, and continue his development towards one day taking over as the Hoops number one.

The BBC Sport website reports that the Staggies are close to a season long loan deal for the Scotland Under-21 international which must mean that Neil Lennon and the Celtic recruitment team are in the process of signing at least one senior keeper to compete with Scott Bain between the sticks.

If Doohan leaves without any additions Bain will not only be the only senior keeper but his back up will be Conor Hazard – basically – the second choice academy/reserve team player ahead of one of the biggest seasons in the clubs history.

County started the friendly fixture at Celtic Park with a trialist in goals and it was later revealed to be none other than Doohan, with little chance over the two goals that he did concede the 22-year old can be happy with his afternoon’s work against his own employers.

Doohan has been playing senior football consistently for the last two seasons, spending time at Ayr United in the Scottish Championship and impressing in his spell working under Ian McCall, a move to a Premiership club is the perfect step for his next move.

Albeit a small one, it would still be a gamble to allow Doohan to leave without first securing competition for the number one slot at Parkhead, any injury to Bain would be a nightmare for the Hoops gaffer, with the recruitment team needing to answer serious questions about their inability to get an experienced stopper through the door before the season kicks off this weekend.
