As quoted by Celtic blog, Celts Are Here, Neil Lennon has revealed that he tried to sign Ryan Christie last summer when he was the manager of Hibernian.

The midfielder can play in a number of roles across the pitch and enjoyed a strong campaign last year for the Hoops with him impressing on various occasions.

Indeed, it’s certainly a good thing that he stayed put at Paradise but Lennon has revealed that if John McGinn had signed for us he would have wanted Christie in exchange as part of the deal.

He revealed:

“I actually wanted Ryan at Hibs as part of the McGinn deal if it happened. I’d been impressed with him when he was on loan at Aberdeen.

“Thankfully it didn’t happen, he took his chance when it came along and hasn’t looked back.”

Of course, there has been plenty of water under the bridge since and Lennon has ended up manager of Christie at our club, so it’s worked out well in that respect.

He is clearly a player that he rates highly and hopefully we’ll see him kick on from last season and emulate some of the more senior pros at the club in the coming campaign.
