McCarthy Looking To Move On

|

Reports coming out of Celtic Park that James McCarthy is now looking for a move from the club after only one season.

The Republic of Ireland international has had few opportunities under Ange Postecoglou.

Football Scotland is reporting that the midfielder is weighing up his options before the transfer deadline with several English clubs reportedly interested.

McCarthy seems to have fallen further down the midfield pecking order since the arrival of Australian international, Aaron Mooy.

With still 3 years left on what is a reportedly lucrative contract, the departure of McCarthy, would free up a chunk of the wage budget, perhaps then allowing Ange Postecoglou to go after one of his identified defensive midfield targets.

While Celtic have financial stability thanks in no part to the Champions League Group Stage money, as a financially responsible club, the board will be keen to ensure that wage spending does not exceed our means and as such there may be a requirement for the manager to remove some of the fringe players from the squad before any further business can be done.

While it hasn’t worked out for McCarthy at his boyhood club, should he make a move this summer, the fans at Celtic will no doubt wish one of our own every success in his new venture.
