With Celtic’s defensive deficiencies on full display tonight, the fans will be wondering when reinforcements will be signed off to help bolster their backline.

With the disappointing mistake that Carl Starfelt made for AZ Alkmaar’s second goal tonight, the big Swedish international has not enjoyed a good start to his career at Paradise.

Although he did recover well, it is clear the jury is still out on Starfelt.

A report today from The Irish Examiner has said that Liam Scales is set to have his medical this weekend at Paradise after making his final appearance for Shamrock Rovers in their Europa League tie against Flora Tallin.

The £500,000 move is expected to take place over the course of the next few days as the Hoops beat off stiff competition from the English leagues to land their man and they will be desperate to add some much needed steel to what looks like a shaky back line which was exposed by AZ Alkmaar in Holland tonight.

Scales is highly rated in The Republic of Ireland and has made numerous appearances for the Irish u21 squad. He was named in the full international squad ahead of their World Cup triple headers in September due to his excellent form for his club.

Scales will be hoping to hit new heights as he starts his career at the Hoops and he will be eligible to play for Celtic in the Europa League group stages as the Glasgow club find out their opponents in tomorrow afternoons draw.
