No one gave us a hope of winning anything last season, never mind the title.

In fact, many people were too busy pouring scorn over the appointment of Ange Postecoglou and didn’t pay attention to the fact that Celtic had just acquired themselves a title-winning manager.

Against all the odds, Ange delivered two trophies last season, with the most important of those being the SPFL title as it guaranteed us Champions League football.

After a shaky start to the league campaign, many people were predicting he would be sacked by Christmas [The Scotsman] but, in fact, what Postecoglou achieved from September onwards was hailed by Hoops CEO Michael Nicholson in his statement on the release of Celtic’s financial results [Celtic FC].

Hailing the manager, Nicholson said, “Domestically, despite losing three of our first six cinch Premiership matches, our supporters continued to believe in and support what our Manager was looking to achieve.

“Early success in the Premier Sports Cup fed confidence and everyone connected with the Club was delighted to see Callum McGregor lift his first trophy as Celtic captain.

“Following the last of the league defeats, in September 2021, we embarked upon on a remarkable 32-match unbeaten run until the end of the season; an outstanding achievement and one that led to us regaining the cinch Premiership title.

“The scale of that achievement should not be underestimated, and we thank and congratulate the Manager, the Captain and all of the players and staff for a fantastic season of entertaining and winning football.”

It wasn’t just an outstanding achievement, it was miraculous what Ange pulled out of the hat last season.

From what he had to rebuild, to connecting with the fans, Ange not only made us champions again, he completely healed the rift between the board and the fans although it has to be said, the board’s backing of the manager also had a helping hand in that.

And it just shows you what happens when the manager is backed. Results on the park lead to money in the bank.

Let’s hope the backing continues. I am sure it will.

It’s the dreaded international break. So take away the boredom and try our *BRAND NEW* quiz. Who are Celtic’s most capped players from these countries?
