Celtic’s win against Ross County takes them effectively to two wins and the league is officially theirs.
But in reality, if we take three points next Sunday against our Glasgow rivals, then the league will be done and dusted because even if Celtic do lose the last three games of the season, their superior goal difference will be enough to get them over the line.
But looking at the level of unwarranted criticism the club took after last weekends Scottish Cup exit, Kieran Devlin took a massive swipe Celtic’s detractors with a timely reminder as to what this team, under Ange Postecoglou, is all about.
Speaking in The Athletic, Devlin said, “Given the criticism this team has faced over the past week — much of it valid, some of it hyperbolic — Sunday was another illustration of their character.
“Jota’s was their 12th league goal this season scored after the 80th minute.
“They stood up to be counted in a difficult fixture after a week of frustration, and with their goal difference as comfortable as it is, they are now two wins away from the title.”
And that stat Devlin mentioned blows out the water two myths about this team that have been doing the rounds.
Questions about their fitness and sustaining the high press, high intensity football can be laid to rest as well as the ‘bottle’ agenda that certain pundits have been pushing all week.
Late goals have shown this team don’t give up.
They have the mettle for this title fight and they will be rewarded for it at the end of the season.
