Celtic recently announced the departure of two first team regulars in the shape of Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic but one 9-in-a-row regular who’s contract has also ended has yet to officially leave the club.

Craig Gordon’s contract expired at the end of May and as such leaves the club with Scott Bain as the club’s only recognised senior goalkeeper after Fraser Forster returned to Southampton with The Daily Record reporting that .

Much of Gordon’s future will depend on if he receives an offer of first-team football before Celtic sort out their own situation and whether or not the Scotland international wants to wait for a chance to stay at Parkhead.

True or false, Billy McNeill has made the most league appearances for Celtic?

Neil Lennon has been linked with other goalkeepers already but there has been speculation that Southampton might not be too difficult to deal with should – as expected – they look to turn his loan spell into a permanent deal, this would solve all their problems knowing that Bain is a reliable understudy and Ross Doohan continues to improve.

Claudio Bravo and Vaclav Hladky are the other names that have been reported as having been lined-up by the recruitment team at the Hoops should they not secure the return of Forster with both offering an experienced pair of hands, although the latter has yet to prove his competence at the sharp end of the table.

Hoops fans have been left playing the waiting game, looking for any hint that Forster will be returning, if Gordon’s departure is announced in the coming days it can only mean one thing – in their eyes at least – that the Great Wall will be back to finish what he started.
