A report in The Daily Record has revealed that Kristoffer Ajer has left his long-term agent as speculation around the Norwegian’s future continues to circulate.

Almost every week that Scotland has been in lockdown has seen a different story linking Ajer away from Parkhead with AC Milan and Leicester City said to be the two clubs currently battling it out for his signature.

Ajer’s former agent, Tore Pedersen, has never been shy from speaking to the press going as far as to claim, earlier in the season, that his client will not be at Celtic next season and will definitely leave in the summer forcing the centre-half into stating his happiness at the club.

True or false, Billy McNeill has made the most league appearances for Celtic?

Neil Lennon certainly won’t have him on his Christmas card list either and will be glad to see the back of him in the hope that new advisers will be more willing to negotiate a new contract for the 22-year old.

The Daily Star reported that Celtic have set an asking price of £20million for Ajer which, considering he arrived on a free contract – a nominal compensation fee was paid – would represent yet another stunning piece of business by the Parkhead recruitment team.

Ajer’s actions can mean one of two things, he has either upgraded to a bigger agency to deal with clubs operating in the higher echelons of European football or he feels that he hasn’t been getting the career advice that he thinks serves his best interests.

With Jozo Simunovic departing, the last thing Lennon will want is for Ajer to leave too, when you are playing a 3-5-2 formation, it doesn’t help to have just one recognised centre-half at the club.
