Neil Lennon, I think, is a much maligned character when he discussed amongst the Celtic fans.
Many regard him as a legend for his twenty years service at the club. Many have never forgiven him for losing the ten in a row dream and the legacy he left Ange Postecoglou.
Of course, that legacy wasn’t ALL down to Lennon. The board have much of the blame to bear for their part in the downfall and downsizing of this once brilliant Celtic squad.
Lennon, because of last season, had now become a divisive figure amongst the Hoops support which is why this article by The Celtic Way, drew such a mixed reaction from the fans.
In some ways, I can certainly agree with part of what the writer, Kevin McKenna wrote,“Throughout it all, Lennon defended Celtic and bore the pain.
“He’s been doing that since he made his debut for Celtic at Dens Park more than 20 years ago.
“This man is entitled to a free pass into Parkhead for the rest of his life, and our eternal gratitude.”
We, as Celtic fans, should always be be grateful for Lennon’s role in securing a second nine in a row and an unprecedented Quadruple Treble.
But what I think irk’s fans more is Lennon’s failure to accept any accountability for last seasons failures and how he has conducted himself in the media since.
And there is where I think the fans may have an issue with the former gaffer having a free pass to Paradise.
But the Hoops fans reaction on Twitter certainly was a mixed one and the article itself, drew great debate from the fans:
Agreed got a lot wrong in his final, dreadful even painful, season at Celtic Park but had loads of credit in the bank. The only man to win a TREBLE as player and manager, he was part of a Celtic squad who you got us to a European Final. A legend, simply put.

No he hasn’t and doesn’t. He ruined everything by not resigning in october20. The board were equally as culpable for not sacking him. Both only cared about how it affected them financially. They ruined everything and that will be their legacy.

NL is clearly an intelligent man, was a great player in the Hoops
However
Until the day and hour that he humbly accepts his overwhelming role in the calamity that was 10iar, he should stay away , silently— Alan Hopper (@aldohops) October 23, 2021
I totally agree with this but Lennon is not the only manager who has been badly treated by our fans. The treatment of Gordon Strachan has been disgraceful. He absolutely loved being Celtic manager & he was succesful but some fans still slag him off…

As good as he’s been for Celtic, Celtic have been very good for him. He made mistakes and unfortunately for him it was the biggest season it could’ve went wrong. All the fans are looking for is an admission that he had a bit to do with it. He’s taken no responsibility

He’s no celtic legend. Putting the 2 in the same sentence is an insult to great men like Larsson, Burns, the lions who represented the club. Lennon is out for one person and one person only. Himself. He put himself before the club and refuses to take an ounce of responsibility.

He hung on too long as manager, but with hindsight, we all would given the chance! He’s a Celtic player and twice manager, that gives him legend status for sure. 👍🍀 pic.twitter.com/CsmuJe1Dnc

And I think I will leave the last word to this fan:
Everyone has there own take on NL and his legacy.
Kevin’s is one but don’t dare tell me or any other Celtic supporter how we should feel about him.— Martin Brennan_Sligo (@00Bollox_Celtic) October 23, 2021
