One of the weekend’s big transfer rumours at Celtic has been fresh links with Everton midfielder James McCarthy, as reported by TEAMtalk.
They say the Hoops and West Ham United are leading the chase to sign the player on a loan basis until the end of the current season.
There isn’t a transfer window that seems to go by without some sort of McCarthy link to Celtic. He is a preferred option when it comes to reporting Celtic signing news given his well known status as a boyhood Hoops fan.
However, with the Republic of Ireland international badly needing first-team football after a long-term injury, does this deserve more credence than usual?
We haven’t exactly been shy about utilising loans already this month and McCarthy could provide quality competition for Callum McGregor, Scott Brown, Olivier Ntcham and Ryan Christie.
Some fans though aren’t convinced, either with another player arriving on a short-term deal or with the Everton man himself.
These supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the rumours…
James McCarthy? No thanks, not needed.
