When it comes to Hollywood ‘A’ listers and famous fans, Celtic has a gluttony of them.

Off the top of my head we have Rod Stewart, Lewis Capaldi, Coolio, Martin Compston and even the LA legend Robert Duvall is a huge Celtic fan.

Although, I think Duvall was most taken by the late, great Jimmy Johnstone who he considered the Celtic legend as a personal friend of his after befriending him many years ago.

The point is, the club is global and has many famous fans.

One of the most famous fans is Billy Connolly.

The ‘Big Yin’ used to frequent Celtic Park in his heyday but old age and illness has meant that the Glaswegian comedy legend doesn’t get along to Celtic Park as often these days.

But it seems that he may not have always been a Hoops fan. At least according to Sun journalist, Alan Nixon.

Answering a fans question on which club he supported, Nixon let slip that the famous ‘Partick Thistle-nil’ joke was Connolly’s in this reveal:

To be honest, I had never heard this before.

I always assumed that Billy was always a Celtic fan but at least the Big Yin saw the light and has now seen many trophy presentations since he switched allegiances.

At least it wasn’t the other Glasgow club he switched from because that would have been unthinkable.

I wonder how Queens Park are getting on?

Edit: Thanks to Declan from ACSOM for passing this video on:

Call yourself a true Celtic fan? How well do you know the European Cup winning season?

As I remember it Billy said he was a Thistle fan when he was relatively new and didn’t want to alienate the ‘other’ half of Glasgow but when he was able to attract a wider UK and international audience he declared his true colours.

Afraid yer wrong about Robert Duvalle. Aye he did say wee jinky’s the best character he’s ever met, tho he’s always actually favored rangers. He was also a hampden guest at one of the derby cup finals when Martin o’neill was our manager and was sayin he wanted rangers tae win that day.
