Null and void a possibility – Doncaster refuses to rule out early end to season

|

All the talk last season in the midst of the COVID pandemic was to null and void the season. It was the only way to make sure the league keeps it’s integrity and it was the fairest way to end the season right? Well, that was the argument from the blue half of the city. With only nine games remaining and Celtic thirteen points ahead, the possibility to catch the Hoops was also real right? Only if you believe the blue half of the city.

So I’m sure that if the SPFL decided to call the league right now and null and void it during the worst period of the pandemic on record, they would also agree. Correct? Don’t count on it.

Wait until the morning when the blue half of the city hear that Neil Doncaster has refused to rule out a “null and void” league with fifteen games to go (eighteen if count Celtic’s games in hand).  Speaking to The Daily Record, Doncaster said, “No one has a crystal ball but certainly if we carry on as we are then we’ve got a very good chance of completing the Premiership and Championship seasons.

“If the games can’t be completed and we end up where we were in March 2020 then clearly it’s going to be a very difficult situation.

“You’ve got to bear in mind over 75 per cent of games had been played in all four divisions of the SPFL when the season was curtailed.

“We certainly hope we will complete 100 per cent of the fixtures in all four divisions this season. It will be for the members to determine what happens in the event they are not.

“In the event the games couldn’t be played, then once again the members might have a decision to make.

“I’ve never ruled out anything. It’s up to the members to rule things in or out.
