The “Steven Fletcher to Celtic” rumour is one that had been doing the rounds during the summer transfer window and at one point a move looked imminent as the Hoops offered the ex Scotland striker a contract. It is believed Celtic offered the hitman a one year deal with a one year option to extend but Fletcher chose Stoke City instead after the English Championship offered him a two year deal.

Fletcher was on target again for Stoke in yesterday’s 3-0 win over Luton Town, taking the former Scotland international’s goal tally this season to eight in twenty nine appearances so it doesn’t seem as if Celtic have missed out on a prolific goal scorer like they have done with another Championship striker, Ivan Toney.

There was plenty of gossip and heresay as to the reasons why Fletcher rejected the Hoops but ex Rangers player, Alex Rae, along with his fellow radio pundit Mark Wilson seem to have the real reason behind the 33 year old’s motives to choose a £15,000 per week deal with The Potters over The Bhoys.

Should Neil Lennon be Celtic manager next season?

YES

NO

Speaking on yesterday’s post match Clyde 1 Superscoreboard ex Celt, Mark Wilson, said, “I remember when it was rumoured he was close to coming to Celtic.  Was that in the summer? And people were saying he has bought a house in Glasgow and wants to come up.”

Alex Rae jumped in and said, “He wanted a longer contract.”

Wilson concurred with his co pundit, “Yep, yep but not to be”.

Celtic opted instead to spend £5m bringing in Swiss striker, Albian Ajeti, to the club and although it is still early days, the jury is still out on the Hoops striker.
