Lennon – “The season is not a disaster. We don’t set targets”. Wow! There are no words

|

There are literally no words. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, the Celtic manager tells you that a trophy less season, with no European football before December AND that your city rivals have the opportunity to take the league title from your hands in your own backyard in less than four weeks is NOT a disaster, then what is?

I am pretty sure there must be a PR man at Celtic Park who’s job it is to vet these press conferences or at least coach Lennon on what to say, or more importantly, not what to say when the team gave up t12 points out of 15 in one month in January to surrender the league to their city rivals. Not just any league. The record breaking 10th league title in a row.

Speaking at his pre match conference ahead of the game against Ross County, Lennon said, “We still have a lot of work to do and a lot of improvements to make. But it is not the unmitigated disaster that everyone makes it out to be and we want to finish the season as strongly as possible and see where that takes us.

“We’re looking at every game on its own merit. We’re not setting targets.

Not, Setting. Targets. Really?

Should Neil Lennon be Celtic manager next season?

YES

NO

“We’re looking at the next game against Ross County. They are fighting for their lives and we can’t afford to drop points.

“We need to try to keep our run going and not worry about what’s going on elsewhere. If we take it to beyond the split, then so be it.

“To be successful here year in, year out you need to be of a certain temperament and be able to take the rough with the smooth. We are seeing that now with the good groove and it takes a bit of character to do that.”

Good character would have been to at least take more than half the points up for grabs in a month that defined a record breaking season Neil.
