The recent signing of Matt O’Riley seems to be the end of two Celtic stars time at Paradise according to former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Wilson, after hearing a glowing reference of Celtic’s new capture, said, “Soro, I think, is definitely as far down the pecking order as you can go.

“I think as soon as he stepped on the pitch away at Betis, and we seen his performance there, there’s been really no way back for him into Ange Postecoglou’s thinking.

“McCarthy, it’s just no happened for him.

“A wonderful player in his time. Great career.

“But when he’s came to Celtic, he just works a few yards off the pace what’s required to play in that high press and high tempo team.

“And I think Ange Postecoglou may be looked at that and thought, ‘If we are going going to continue the way I want us to then James McCarthy may not be the holding midfielder we require‘.

“We need somebody more dynamic who can get about the pitch, who can score goals, and the way that Matt O’Riley has just been described it sounds like he could be it.”

For Soro, there can’t really be much debate on whether he will be good enough as recent performances have shown that he just doesn’t have it.

But McCarthy? Is the summer signings time already up at Celtic?

We will watch with anticipation.

Not unlike many others, this column has had the knives out for McCarthy from day one.
McCarthy oozes class and while there’s almost certainly fitness issues there, I hope he proves all doubters wrong and shuts you up.

  • Vincent Doherty says:

I really wanted it to work for James McCarthy, but in all honesty he’s looked a bit sluggish and not really impressed in any way. Pity really. He could have been a real asset.

  • Fun time frankie says:

I’m sorry to say this but in my opinion Mc Carthy was only signed because of the Irish connection with DD and it just hasn’t worked do far.But if DD IS PICKING UP HIS WAGE BILL THATS FINE.

  • Donald Macintyre says:

I will be sorry if Soro leaves, the first player in my time to be a money winner, booked every game, money in the bank. Mccarthy looks finished, he has lost the ability to get around the park, why we gave him such a long contract, who knows.
Ange plays a high tempo and neither fit the profile

  • MR TOM MCDAID says:

As long as he played as a team player there is no disgrace in coming up short of pace in the limited occasions given but I will still respect his time with Celtic.
