I guess I am not the paranoid, clickbait merchant that Tom English makes me out to be eh?
A couple of days ago I called out what seems to me to be a media ambush of Celtic’s Carl Starfelt.
More namely, giving my opinion on Tom English’s comments on BBC Sportsound after Celtic beat Hibs 2-0 at Paradise.
The journalist took issue with it and tweeted out his opinion on the piece, which is his right, and I challenged him to find a positive opinion piece on the big Swede. Just one.
Still not heard anything from him so I’m assuming he must still be looking.
But unlike Tom, I have been reporting for months now that there seems to be a witch hunt by certain factions of the Scottish media on the Celtic defender.
And the latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Podcast on YouTube (22 minutes in), highlighted the stick Starfelt got on, none other than, BBC Sportsound. Weird that isn’t it?
Speaking about Starfelt, Sinky said, “I mean to touch on the Starfelt thing, he’s taken a lot of stick and as fans we’re right to call out things if he’s had a poor game or been short.
“For me it just feels like there’s something a wee bit more to it at the moment in the media.
“Like a bit of a vendetta for some reason. Things are going pretty well at Celtic just know. There’s a lot of positivity around the place.
“And are people saying, ‘Can we find a wee niggle here. Can we unsettle somebody?‘ And I actually thought Starfelt showed a bit of aggression and a bit of a point to prove last night.”
“He was really hungry. He was going into things that he could maybe have sat back from.
“But he wanted to go in, claim it and show the player that he knows he can be.”
Co presenter, James replied, “You know I am or record as I’m not sure about him and he might not be the long term fix.
“But you cannot pick a guy who’s in the stingiest league in the SPFL and who had a great game.
“Now I listened to Radio Scotland on the way home from the game last night and they just got horsed into him.
“And you’re going, ‘Wait a minute! Clean sheet. Stingiest defence. Had a great game. What’s the point of that?’
“There’s just no logic to it unless you’re just trying to pick a thread because you can find anything that’s actually genuine.”
And Tino backed up this assertion, “But that’s always been the case. When we’re on the up. But there’s always somebody that’s ready to knock you back down.
“It seems to be certain individuals in the media outlets that love it. I’m no naming names.”
Yeah. Exactly.
