“And if we’re talking about potentially selling him” – Andy Halliday on ‘Celtic’s Player of the Year’

There are players you get in your team that are just indispensable.

That one player that no matter what, you simply cannot envisage not wearing the green and white hoops.

Callum McGregor is one of those players. Scott Brown was another one. Seeing Broony in the red of Aberdeen just didn’t quite sit right with me and if that day ever comes, I will feel the same about McGregor.

I would also feel the same about Reo Hatate.

And, before anyone shouts me down, looking at what he is doing in a Celtic jersey this early into his Hoops career, I firmly believe that he will go on to become a Celtic legend if he stays at the club for the remainder of his career.

I wrote yesterday that Hatate was described as a player as having the potential to become a £50m asset for a club.

Obviously, we won’t sell him on from Scotland for that type of cash, but if he did move on then there is every chance that if he succeeded, his next move could be that big one.

But I don’t want him to move on. He has already proven his worth to the team which is why it annoys me that pundit, Andy Halliday was speaking about selling on our midfielder.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Halliday said, “Just so many attributes in and out of possession.

“Out of possession, he’s just so industrious on how Celtic want to play. He’s very, very key.

“In possession, he’s box to box. He’s looking to get on the ball, he’s looking to play forward to add more goals to his game.

“It seems like every week he’s got that man of the weekend for Celtic (not for Halliday though), but I think over the piece of the season, I think he has been Celtic’s player of the year so far.

“And if we’re talking about potentially selling him, they’ll definitely recoup the one and a half million if they do go on to sell him, that’s for sure.”

Talk about stating the obvious. We would get at least ten times what we paid for him if we ever decided to let him go.

But we are not. Hatate is an integral part of what Ange Postecoglou is building at Celtic and any talk of him moving on should result in an instant ban at Parkhead.

Ok, that last bit was a bit harsh, but you know what I mean.

We should be looking to keep the top class talent in Scotland, not looking for the first opportunity to move them on.

Celtic hold the record for most Scottish Cup Final wins. Who scored the winners in these TEN finals?
