Report: Celtic take transfer spending to £5.5m with Ivory Coast midfielder next to sign

|

A report in The Daily Record claims that defensive midfielder Ismaila Soro is set to sign for Celtic for a fee believed to be around £2m as they look to strengthen for the second half of the season.

The 21-year-old currently plays in Israel for Bnei Yehuda and is also a rumoured target for Belgian champions Genk, according to the article.

Yehuda have just appointed a new manager and Elisha Levy is disappointed at the potential loss of one of his key players:

Ismaila Soro’s transfer deal to Celtic has been closed in principle and he is expected to leave in the near future. When I took this job I knew he was going, so this isn’t a surprise to me”.

“It just means we will have to look for reinforcements in his position”.

“Of course it will be difficult because Soro is an excellent player. He is clearly a big loss to the team and it will be up to me to find a good replacement for him”.

Neil Lennon and Celtic fans will be hoping that Soro has more of an impact than £2.8m signing Kouassi Eboue, who was signed in January 2017, with a view to the fellow Ivorian replacing Scott Brown in front of the Hoops back four.

Kouassi, although he has time on his side, has made just 22 appearances in green and white with the Brendan Rodgers signing failing to even make the best on most match days due to poor form and injury since his arrival at the club.

With 21-year-old striker, Patryk Klimala also signing for an outlay of £3.5m, the Parkhead side look to be making a significant investment towards securing 9-in-a-row in what is the closest title challenge for the best part of a decade, Hoops fans will be excited at the prospect of seeing the talented youngsters in action when the winter break ends with the Scottish Cup kicking off this weekend.
