The rise of Celtic’s youngsters under Ange Postecoglou has been nothing short of remarkable this year.

With multiple debuts handed to many youngsters like Owen Moffat, Adam Montgomery and Osaze Urhoghide, there is no better time for any budding Celt looking to make the breakthrough than now as Ange builds a team for the future.

Granted, you could argue that many of these debuts were forced upon the Celtic manager but all of them have impressed.

Especially young Ben Doak. Vital Celtic reported at the beginning of February that Liverpool were starting to circle the youngster as the Glasgow club look to offer him a permanent contract.

But according to Kieran Devlin of The Athletic, it’s is not just Liverpool Celtic need to be wary of, “Multiple sources have described Ben Doak as the best talent of Celtic’s 2005 pool of academy players, a prodigious winger and attacking midfielder.

“Although he has been touted as a talent for some time, his rise over the last 12 months has been impressive, having only made his debut for Celtic’s B team in December, just a couple of weeks before he showed up on that bench against St Johnstone.

“As a result, he has started attracting attention from Champions League clubs down south. Celtic, who have lost many of their best young talents to English clubs and Bayern Munich in recent years, are understandably desperate to keep Doak.”

Double edged sword this. We all want talent coming through the academy but what we also don’t want is a repeat of last season where the best youngsters were cherry picked by some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Celtic must tie him down, and quickly.
