It seems that no matter what the club do, they just cannot seem to shift Vasilis Barkas.

With reports of a move by Sheffield United to take the Greek ‘keeper to England breaking down due to Celtic’s financial demands, there was still hope that the Hoops could offload the former AEK Athens keeper as he was touted to clubs in Turkey.

Vital Celtic reported just last week that a Turkish move was one of the last hopes but as there has been no response from the unknown clubs, it seemed that IFK Goteborg may have been looking to snap him up.

The Swedish clubs Sporting Director confirmed last week that they were in the hunt for a new number one when he said, ““We want to bring in a goalkeeper, and we will do that. We are close. But I do not want to say who it is.

“We want a more experienced goalkeeper.

“We have looked at many and have been careful in the process and have high ambitions to find the right keeper with as much quality as possible.”

This sparked the Barkas rumours again as the Greek international was linked with a move to the club in January but a report from Swedish media outlet, Aftonbladet, has put paid to the speculation by confirming that IFK have set their sights on Norwegian Örjan Uusimaa as they look to seal the deal.

It looks like Celtic will be left with Barkas on the books until the summer at least.
