A report in The Daily Mail has claimed that Celtic’s Ryan Christie underwent groin surgery immediately after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

The article claims:

“Ryan Christie was rushed to hospital to undergo urgent groin surgery just hours after Sunday’s Old Firm defeat to Rangers”.

“The Celtic midfielder endured a day of misery after missing a first half penalty in the 2-1 defeat at Parkhead”.

“Caught up in a tussle with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, the 24-year-old played through the pain before he was finally replaced by Leigh Griffiths with ten minutes to play. Post match examinations showed up the need for an immediate surgical procedure”.

Christie has been flying for the Hoops this season and has scored 17 goals with 13 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, his form allowed the Celts to cope with Odsonne Edouard’s enforced absence through injury and played a key part in maintaining their winning record.

Despite initially struggling to make an impact for Celtic, Christie is now one of the first names on the team-sheet with the 24-year-old capable of scoring from anywhere in and around the penalty box. His delivery from open and set play is also a key weapon in the Hoops artillery.

Fortunately, the Scottish Premiership has shut down for the three week winter break so he won’t miss any games immediately but, it is unclear whether or not Christie will make the flight to Dubai with the rest of the Celtic squad for a stint of warm weather training.

Who should take Christie's slot in the first-team?

They will be hoping for a quick return to action for the former Inverness Caledonian Thistle player given his goal involvement of nearly one every game, he has arguably been the player of the season so far and will be an integral part of Neil Lennon’s plans to secure title number nine.
