Never saw this coming.

I know Celtic get linked to a lot of players but this one really would capture the imagination and eclipse previous signings like Roy Keane, Craig Bellamy and Robbie Keane.

As the club look towards securing the league title and automatic entry into the Champions League, now has never been a better time for the Hoops to look a more attractive option to sign on the dotted line with.

As the Ange revolution gathers momentum, a lot of the talk from the newest recruits has been about that one phone call with Ange that has convinced them to sing with the Celts but could the Aussie sweet talker really pull this one off?

A report surfaced yesterday [The Sun] that Celtic are in the running to sing current Real Madrid star, Gareth Bale.

As it stands they face competition from the English Premier League from Tottenham and Newcastle but is it really outwith the realms of possibility that Celtic could pull off this masterstroke?

At 32 years old, Bale has only featured five times this season for the Galactico’s and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, a Bosman move is on the cards.

Could Celtic afford him?

If it is game time that the Welsh legend is after then yes. Bale has been earning £30m per year since he signed for Real back in 2013 so money will not motivate his next move.

Trophies and regular football will.

Now, he may get regular game time at Tottenham and Newcastle but with the London club needing to offload players to improve their squad it doesn’t seem the right move for Conte, never mind Bale to make and with Newcastle flirting with relegation, would Bale really take the ignominy of playing in England’s second tier?

Celtic can offer the opportunity to play in front of a fanatical fanbase, silverware and guaranteed European football.

The chances are slim. But there is a chance.
