Georgios Samaras says Celtic have been totally revitalised under manager Neil Lennon and that he has rekindled the true spirit of Paradise.
“Fifty thousand people doing a big huddle and jumping up and down in the stands. I have never seen anything like it” – Georgios Samaras
The Greek international admitted that it had been so painful during last year to witness so many vacant seats at Parkhead, which would have previously been filled to the rafters under such as Gordon Strachan and Martin O’Neill.
But he now believes that things have really turned around since the desperately dark days under the leadership of Tony Mowbray.
“The supporters were not coming to the stadium last year and it was really bad. But this year, the team has a new manager and they have turned back to us,” Samaras told the Daily Express. “I think the players, coaching staff and everyone have turned this around. It is nice to play in front of your own supporters.”
The 26-year-old went on to add that the difference really came to his attention during the recent 3-0 home victory over Rangers in the SPL.
“It is my fourth season here and I have to say that was the best atmosphere I have seen in my life. It was even better than Champions League nights. It was something unbelievable.
“I caught myself, for a few seconds in the game, just looking at the supporters instead of the game,” he enthused. “Fifty thousand people doing a big huddle and jumping up and down in the stands. I have never seen anything like it.”
