Celtic will miss out on the signing of Motherwell attacker Jake Hastie, with Rangers moving to bring him to Ibrox on a pre-contract, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The paper say that the Hoops were one of six clubs keeping tabs on the progress of the 19-year-old at Fir Park, but that Rangers will now sign him up on a four-year deal.
Hastie has won plaudits for his performances over the last six weeks after winning a place in the Motherwell first-team, scoring five goals for the club.
Full of pace, skill and attacking confidence, he has a real shot of making an excellent career for himself as a winger.
Rangers have moved to sign a number of Scottish Premiership talents up on the cheap of late with Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones also making the switch to Ibrox after signing pre-contracts.
It’s a strategy that Celtic may want to look into, although obviously we appear to be operating in a transfer market at a tier above the Ibrox side right now.
Still, missing out on Hastie’s potential is something of a blow, and time will tell whether he’s a player we should have been quicker to identify and offered a contract to.
