Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted he is happy to let Peter Lawwell deal with the money side of the club’s recruitment process, content with the way the club are doing business behind the scenes.

There have been rumours of a rift internally at the club all season after Rodgers spoke publicly about being unhappy with the our summer transfer dealings, with some suggesting that the manager was growing frustrated with life at Celtic.

However, his latest comments suggest he is more than happy with how it all works.

Speaking ahead of last night’s win over St Johnstone, Rodgers told The Scottish Sun:

I don’t know money. I’ve got a little bit, but I don’t know that much about it. There are greater experts than me here on that.

You find the player and, whether fair or not, I’m not saying it goes to Peter and he doesn’t do it. That’s not the case because sometimes it changes from an agent’s perspective or a club’s perspective.

You’ve maybe agreed on something initially and then it changes. It’s a difficult, complex dynamic. It’s about trying to find players you can bring in. That’s always the challenge.

To bring in a big player on a big salary is very difficult. There is a level you can’t reach without putting your club at huge risk. That’s just the reality of where it’s at.

Fans will remain expectant that the club can strengthen in key positions on the final day of the transfer window.

The priority would appear to be a right-back, with supporters crying out for more competition for Swedish veteran Mikael Lustig.

With a centre-back also high on the wish list of many, all eyes are on the club to overcome the hurdles Rodgers has set out above and pull a transfer or two out of the bag.
