Brendan Rodgers has given an indication of who he thinks will be in the frame for the Celtic manager job. The Leicester City boss caused carnage at Celtic Park when he walked out on the Hoops over two years ago to take over at The Foxes which led to departed boss, Neil Lennon, to take over the reigns and the quest for ten in a row.

As reported in The Irish Examiner, Rodgers was talking up current interim manager, John Kennedy, as a potential candidate for the Paradise hot seat and spoke very highly of his former coach even although he admitted he never really knew much about Kennedy when he first arrived at Parkhead, “John will certainly be in the frame. I have no doubt that one day he will be a manager.  When I arrived I didn’t know John but I spoke to one or two people and they were very clear on what his qualities were. And in my time there he was an outstanding coach.

“He has worked at every level of the club so he knows the club inside out. He played for the club, he worked in scouting, he has worked in coaching, he has worked at the top end of the academy teams, and he has worked with the first team. And he knows the pressure around the job.

Would you have John Kennedy as next Celtic manager?

YES

NO

“I have got absolutely no question that, whether with Celtic or another club, that he will go on and manage (one) day. But certainly at this moment in time he will be great for the players. He works incredibly hard and he will give everything for the club.

It’s always difficult when you go in and can’t really put your stamp in because the players are the players, but he will give them the very, very best until the end of the season and he will go from there.

“But, one thing is for sure, John being at the club is very, very important. If he didn’t get the job and another manager came in, to have John Kennedy by your side would be a great move.”

Rodgers would do well to keep out of Celtic’s business as it was his actions that caused the chain of events that find the club where they are at the moment. The quicker the Celtic board sort out the structural changes required to get the club back to the summit of domestic power, the quicker they can focus on becoming a force again in Europe.
