Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed the club do not want to stockpile players, but aren’t we doing that already?
Speaking about the transfer strategy during this January window, the Hoops boss stated he is going for a quality over quantity approach when it comes to potential signings.
However, a quick glance at the first-team squad will show 37 players, many of whom have barely played, can’t break into the starting eleven and are earning decent money.
Players like Dorus De Vries, Cristian Gamboa, Marvin Compper and Youssouf Mulumbu are all currently firmly on the fringes of the first-team squad, calling into question the idea that Celtic are not stockpiling players, as Rodgers put it to BBC Scotland.
It’s understandable that he does not want to add to these numbers without good cause, but fans are growing frustrated that he is coming out with this rhetoric when we desperately need quality defensive signings.
These fans took to Twitter this week to discuss his comments…

We’ve got a stockpile of shite at the club that we can’t seem to get rid of . Thing is why did we sign this stockpile of shite in the first place or should it be who signed them ????

Number of players we less than 100 minutes played is shocking. Rid 5 use monies to buy quality. Or get a DoF or change to Red Bulls strategic players business plan.

I agree, too many. What happened to having 2 quality players for each position? 2 keepers, 8 defenders, 8 midfielders, 4 strikers?

Rodgers is deluded.
